Sophia University in rain
もう6年前に描いた水彩画。横山了平先生の水彩画教室で四谷界隈にスケッチに出掛けたのですが、生憎途中から雨。駅ビルに入って上智大学を描きました。描いた画を先生ご覧になって、”この手前の傘は要らないなあ。”その時は雨の画を描くことが頭にあって傘にこだわったので、心外でしたが、今見直すと、画の主題が絞られていないことが解るようになり、横山先生の助言が理解できます。画を描くときの心構えにしてます。
I drew this picture almost six years ago. While attending a class of water-color painting organized by prof. R. Yokoyama, we went to an area in the neighborhood of Yotuya station. Since it started raining soon, I decided to draw a rainy scene. and drew a picture from the exit of the station. When Prof. Yokoyama saw my picture on another day, he said " The large umbrella t the foreground is needless." I couldnot understand his comment at taht time. Now, I can recognize that the painting shoud be forcus on the building of Sophia University in the rain. It is too much to add the large umbrella in the foreground of the picture.
